Catherine Haddad begins this four part series delving into the Collective Marks, beginning with Gaits. She explains the collected canter first, and has her rider demonstrate the difference between a 6 and an 8 canter. In the trot she discusses the concept of through from behind and how that affects the gaits. You get an insight into just how much you can improve your collective mark by having the proper, through trot. She discusses the relationship between balance and throughness. Her rider shows an excellent example of the extended walk with clear overstep, and Catherine offers tips on how to collect the walk without losing freedom in the shoulders. She emphasizes that the rider must have a good seat to influence their horse and increase the gaits score in the collective marks.
