11/2012 - Axel Steiner - Third Level, Freedom in the Back

By working trot walk trot transitions they encourage the horse to push from behind and improve the walk rhythm in the process.  They repeat the exercise in the canter, asking him to stretch down, and using down transitions to the trot in the same frame to loosen his back.

Video Description

Mr. Steiner watches the warm up of this impressive gelding, and determines that the first step should be to work on stretching and releasing the back behind the saddle. They show a great example of the gymnastic benefit of this stretching.
