Richard is a four-time Olympian and has been at the fore-front of the international dressage world for three decades. As well as being among the world’s most experienced international riders he is in demand for his many other attributes. Richard has been credited for masterminding the strategic plan behind Britain’s most successful period of international successes resulting in their historic Olympic and European team golds and World Championship medals. Bring on Rio 2016 Olympics!
Richard is one of the most highly respected personalities in the international dressage world…..and not just because he‘s been around for a long time ! Apart from his achievements as an olympic rider (he has represented GB at four olympics) he has been a ’mover and shaker‘ in almost every aspect of dressage. He was Great Britain’s Performance Manager, and former Team Captain, during our golden period when we not only won our first team european gold, world silver but went onto fulfil the dream of dreams and become Olympic Champions. He himself has won his fair share of international medals and is now re-building a new team of horses ready for the next olympics in Rio. Yes, it seems this guy never stops !
Richard describes his own dressage training background as "very conventional - good old BHS, then a short spell as a pupil at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna while I trained with Kottas, who was the chief rider at the time….finishing off with some sound German influence."
And in between all this and his endless international show schedule, Richard has found time to sit on the international governing body‘s steering committees, be the Vice-President of the International Dressage Riders Club, and..…we could go and on about what he has done, but there isn’t room on the site !
