06/04/15 - Laura Graves - 1st-3rd level, Lots of Transitions

Laura Graves teaches a lesson on the value of transitions. The total running time of this three part video is 35:15.

Video Description

Laura Graves teaches this lesson on her first dressage horse, Sunny, who is now a 21 year old quarter horse schoolmaster. He is often behind the leg, but uses his training up to fourth level such as the flying changes, against the rider. It’s a great opportunity to see a horse who wasn’t bred for dressage and how far he can go. They begin with the stretchy trot, making sure he’s in front of the leg. They work on straightness with him, checking him laterally and forward and back. The counter flexion helps when going to the left. After the warm up, they first check that he is responsive off the leg in the walk, and making sure that he keeps the power in his hind end when they collect him. They do lots of transitions to check his responsiveness.
