Video Description

Laura rides a young Westphalian gelding at the beginning of his dressage career. She explains what qualities they are looking for in a youngster and some of the struggles they go through as they start, particularly with learning the half halt. She talks about how she is training including being hot off the leg. One of her goals is to develop his carrying power. From the get go she makes sure he is responsive and forward at the walk. In the trot she looks for him to stretch through the base of his neck while still carrying his shoulders. She works him through the trot and canter including a leg yield at the canter. She explains why she rides them very forward from the start of their training.
