03/24/16 - Juan Manual Munoz Diaz - Malleability PSG, walk pirouette, lateral work, haunches in, shoulder in, canter half pass, canter pirouette

Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz demonstrates exercises to create a supple and pliant horse.  The total running time of this three part video is 38:00.

Video Description

Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz rides Cartago, a 9 year old going PSG, beginning with a relaxed, open walk and then works through the medium and collected walk while describing his aids. He shows the walk pirouette and explains using the shoulder in to set it up. He offers a solution for horses who tend to stop with their inside hind leg in the pirouette. He uses the trot serpentine in the warm to allow stretching and bending along with transitions between the trot and canter. He asks for bend to both the inside and the outside in the canter circle to check on the malleability and responsiveness. Before going to the lateral work at the trot, Juan first works through shoulder in and haunches in at the walk. He asks for a few steps of piaffe before the trot work to increase the activity in the hind end. After performing shoulder in and haunches in at the trot, he works on the half pass. Watch for his use of transitions to improve the collection.
